Through Meet the Dinosaurs from DK Readers (Grades K–2) and Dinosaurs Before Dark, the first in the Magic Tree House Series by Mary Pope Osborne (Grades 2–4) students will gather information about dinosaurs. They’ll discover the types of dinosaurs that roamed the earth and find out about the dinosaurs’ habitat, survival needs, and how they fulfilled those needs. They will theorize and explore questions about the lives, survival and extinction of the dinosaurs, including:
- What survival needs did dinosaurs have (food, shelter, safety)?
- What types of places did dinosaurs live in (forests, desserts, etc.)?
- What type of food did dinosaurs eat? How did they get their food?
- What are some of the reasons that scientists think caused dinosaurs to become extinct?
- How might the dinosaurs’ extinction relate to their habitat and needs?
With each activity geared to individual abilities, students will participate in a variety of activities, explorations and discussions related to dinosaurs that use math, science, reading and writing skills. Watch as your students become mini archaeologists!
