You Wouldn’t Want to Be an Egyptian Mummy! Disgusting Things You’d Rather Not Know, by David Stewart, for Grades 3 – 8 engages students and connects them to Egypt and ancient civilization, pyramids and hieroglyphics. Activities are provided for students to create their own hieroglyphics and send secret messages to each other. They will learn about designing their own canopic containers to hold the vital organs. (The most interesting fact is how the brain was removed before embalming the body!) Students will find out about how the Egyptians used their “lucky charms.” They will also learn about tomb robbers and put their creative juices to work to write a story about “The Case of the Tomb Robbers.”
